If you wake up each morning to do things against your will then you are not free. Most humans would not choose to do the things they're forced to do on a daily basis if they had a choice. This would imply that their freedom of choice has been taken from them.
If a country is taking away it's citizens freedom of choice on a daily basis, then it is not a free country.

The concept of freedom is more nuanced than simply "But I don't wanna, so I'm not gonna, and everything I want should be given to me." That's not freedom, that's being a spoiled brat.
