$16/hour - treated like crap, had 5 bosses (1 actual boss, 4 people that acted like my boss), lots of work and stress. the company did not care when I put my 2 weeks in. they didn't try to save me or offer me more money, and even congratulated my replacement for the promotion (but did not wish me best wishes)

$13/hour - mediocre security guard job. haven't started yet, but looking for less stress. hoping for the best

Dont know why a grown adult would be satisfied with either of these wages

learn a trade or something and start making decent money

I definitely wasn't the best employee. had a bad attitude nearly every day, came in late a lot, had no motiviation to excel at the job because I hated it so much. I'll admit by poor attitude was part of my downfall, but the job itself was also underpaid, very stressful and destined to fail.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

good point. is it possible to like your job?

I'm not, but for a guy with no college experience and living in Rochester NY this isn't bad.

You made the right decision, not being stressed at work is worth more then $3 more if you hate the job and get mentally stressed because of the bullshit.

There are a lot of places that will be better, de stress at the new job and in a few months look for something else that pays $14 or $15.

I dont believe that most have

and I know there are extenuating circumstances for a lot of people, but for a youngish single person there are a lot more options out there that people dont consider

you dont have to have a college degree to make money, you just need to have a marketable skill. And in the age of YouTube it is not hard to learn to use tools

Just did a search for field service technician on indeed for my area

literally hundreds of open positions, no experience necessary, high school degree or equivalent preferred, many offering as high as $25 per hour (in the midwest) with full benefits, on the job training provided

yes, people dont think of these positions. I worked in field service for 8 years and there was constantly an opening nearly the entire time I was there because my boss just didnt get enough applicants. and this was for an international corporation

I literally spent my entire twenties hopping around everything from retail to assembly line to apprenticeships to hard factory work, and never made above 13 back then. Don't chalk it up to me being lazy, either, when i scoured job boards, worked with multiple temp agencies, and applied for 40 jobs in two days at one point.

Quit your fucking games like there are just 15 an hour jobs on every street corner waiting to be snatched up.
I support the trades and I'm from a long time blue collar family - so don't assume that i don't. But class traitorism, shaming, and talking anecdotally is a bad look and doesn't actually help anybody and just makes you look like an awful person

I might be going from 26 to 17 soon. Though the sales bonus can potentially offset that and much more. You also have to consider benefits and perks too. A job is more than base comp.

As long as you can live on a lower wage, taking more money for more stress never seemed worth it to me. I have a mindlessly easy job that pays semi-decent, that has flexible hours and gives me a good amount of free time. I could easily get another job that pays about triple what I make now, but it's much more hours, much more stress, and just about every guy that works it gets divorced and never sees their family but hey, the money is good.
