Yeah going into that movie blind can be...quite a shock lol.

Looks to be a Sci-Fi Mystery/Adventure.

Ends up as more of a Cosmic horror story

I know the Rental Review stuff is a RLM ripoff... but I never watched RLM until AFTER Rental Reviews was a thing so I dunno, it doesn't really bother me. >_>

I don't hate the new guys, Tony is actually kind of amusing, and the other two are okay.

Mike gets on my nerves, though. He is usually tolerable when he's on something with others, like James and Mike Mondays and the occasional movie review, but good lord his actual game streams make you just want him to shut up. Like I guess if I had a following and could make a living or at least substantial extra money streaming I would, but he's like a 40 year old guy crying and whining and screaming like an 8 year old at a video game for hours on end.

I overall enjoy Cinemassacre's output that includes James, but the AVGN movie was pretty bad. >_>

honestly this is all new to me, and so I find it interesting.

I had heard he had lost his passion for gaming so that makes sense. and you can clearly see a well defined change in quality over the years.

either way, interesting look at it by the ever famous rumor mill.

I've watched AVGN since 2007, used to love his videos but i think they went downhill. didn't even watch his latest AVGN video, no interest anymore. I agree with the article on post #3 on most points, I believe Mike was the man behind most of the AVGN, and that James was just a poppet with casual gaming interest and nothing more. I do think James is a genuine guy and not a cash grab asshole like the article clams though.

When people have families they start to care about money a LOT more -- speaking from personal experience. It's expensive raising kids. So if you consider an artist a "cash grabber", that could be true but they aren't necessarily assholes for it

I think if you make a successful series you should be allowed to make money off it. doesn't make you an asshole

The article makes him out to be an asshole, however, acting like he sold out because he's greedy.

In some ways he's a cash grabber like with that lame Mortal Kombat 11 video. Check out the other Mortal Kombat videos they did for James and Mike where they're having fun with it and compare it to the 11 video. James talks of how he doesn't have time for it and, at a certain point, the video content changes to one of Mike's streams. Why the rush job? The theory of trying to get it out there in time due to youtube algorithms does seem likely although I could see it being the Screenwave guys (or just Ryan) pushing for it while James just goes along with it because they tell him.

Yeah it turns out his videos didn't drop in quality nearly as much as that post would have you think

I mean, there's stinkers (like the videos with Gilbert Gottfried and Macaulay Culkin) but the Amiga CD32 video is more detailed and better than all of the old system review videos from 2007 where he barely talks about shit. Watch the Sega CD and 32x videos. He says about two lines of each game and then moves on to the next one.

Combine that with the fact that there's less goofy forced toilet humor. Some of the old videos haven't aged well at all and he's at his best when he's just criticizing/reacting to the game without dumb toilet humor or skits

I don't think he was trying to get the attention of Hollywood with his movie.

Seems like he just wanted to make a really big spectacle for the E.T. review.

Not sure exactly where, but sometime after ep 110 the quality started dropping quite a bit, with a few exceptions like Game Boy Accessories. His acting just... sucks, and his anger is super fake and forced. :(
