I've been kind of in the mood for a new Pokemon, having not played one since X/Y, but I'm also not really sure about going all in on S/S for full price.

Target has Ultra S/M on sale for $23 with free shipping, which is super tempting right now. I feel like I heard fairly mixed things about them, though. Is it worth buying one of them for that price as someone who didn't play the originals and has been away from the series for a little while?

The game story is eh and there isn't a lot of post game content but it does let you play with every pokemon up to Gen 7.

From someone who went without playing a Pokemon game since GSC to coming back during the last ~6 months of Gen 6.

Honestly what kept me sane through 6 months of surgery and recovery.

My opinions on it are probably a bit distorted, but for that price get it.

...only game I ever completed the pokedex on, or battled competitively with.

I'll bump this just in case anyone else has any input, but I'll probably snag it.

ORAS is also on sale, but it's unavailable online and the nearest Target is like 45 minutes from me, so I don't see myself going to grab that.

Depends on how much you like breeding. It's the final frontier for that.

Can you elaborate? Do you just mean in terms of having all of the old Pokemon together, or mechanically?

I'm not super super into higher-end stuff and competitive elements, but I'd probably do a bit of endgame stuff and breeding.

Having access to every mon, and it being very easy to get all the items necessary for breeding, and SOS making it easy to get a good start with that, being able to chain for 4IV mons with HAs.
