So far 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 ended with that. I'm sure it's gonna happen here too anyway.

Anyway, the combat is a little janky compared to 0-2 but it's still fine. The character models definitely don't look anywhere near as good as 0-2 also.

Anything I should know or expect? Anything missable? >_> Apparently the PS4 version added all the stuff that was cut before in the PS3 US release.

Yeah, it's jarring because technically you're playing the "oldest" game, given it just got a remaster and not a remake.

One thing to note is you don't really have free travel between the two locations in the game until the very end, so I generally advise people to do all substories as they come so you don't get accidentally locked behind progress.

There is one trophy that's missable if you go for those. Let me know if you want to know and I'll spoiler tag it. It involves a minigame.

I'm interested in the Yakuza series. Do I need to start from the beginning or can I just hop in with one of the newer games? >_>

I always suggest starting with Yakuza 0. It's a prequel that came out a few years back, so it's quite modern, and it has a very distinct 80's style compared to the rest of the games, which are modern to the time they were released.

That said, every Yakuza game can be played on its own. Each has its own story that starts and stops in that game.

Characters do carry over in the series, so you can expect them to be like "Oh yeah that guy from the last game".

The problem is if I start with a newer game, then go back to an earlier entry, it might feel too primitive for me to fully enjoy it. Had that problem going into RDR from RDR2.

But if I start with the first released and go in order from there, I might get impatient because I want to see the new hotness now and won't be able to fully appreciate them.

So it's a pickle for me lol

Yakuza 3 was great. I was playing it..... shit, 10 years ago in raw Japanese.

You say it is uncut. Does that mean they have Answer X Answer in it?

Hated it in the beginning to much kids crap, BUT THE ENDING Fight saved it,

Yakuza 2 still the most iconic for me so far, soo much twists and turns it felt Kojima wrote it

I am almost done with Yakuza 4, Tiga story is cool as hell, this Cop guy seems weird

like this Yakuza 4 vision was what turned out to be JUDGEMENT.

I wanna say start with 0 honestly. unless u want to go from good to great then start with kiwami 1 and then 0. 6 is sadly the weakest entry since it was their first time creating a new engine, less polish etc.

Well okay here's some other info.

First of all Yakuza 0 will likely feel modern. It came out on the PS4, after all. It was on the previous engine but it still looks great. It's also quite cheap to get.

Yakuza 0 through Yakuza 6 all have the same main protagonist: Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima, and the toughest guy around with the most unbreakable back.

But if you want to play a "properly" modern Yakuza-style game right now, you can play Judgment on the PS4. It takes place in the same universe, features a new protagonist and a different story, but has a tone quite similar to the earlier games and plays pretty much the same.

Beyond that, Yakuza 7, known in the West as "Yakuza: Like a Dragon" will be coming out next year (likely late summer). It's the start of a new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, and will likely require very little knowledge about previous games. Can't say for sure though as it's not even out in Japan.

So really there's nothing wrong with going through Yakuza 0, saying "okay I'm good give me the new stuff" and moving on one of the more recent releases.

Also, does your guide still work well even with all the extra japanese stuff added in?

I assume that is a no on the Answer X Answer. I liked that game, but I can see that game being nearly impossible to finagle into English.

Oh sorry Say, I missed your post. No, Answer x Answer is gone, both in the US and the JP versions of the remaster of Y3.

So there's a trophy called "Fashionista" that's done with the "Hostess Maker" minigame. You basically have to dress your hostess and fill one of the four "values" of style completely. I even have a separate section of the guide just for that trophy. Anyway, once you finish the Hostess Maker, you won't be able to go back and redo them to get the trophy.

My guide was designed with that in mind. I actually made a second stripped down one shortly after more in line with the US PS3 version, but the guide I made for Yakuza 3 is for the PS4 remaster.

Also it looks like the script got updated. I recall that in 1-3 they called Shintaro as "Fuma" I think, but in this version they call him Shintaro.

A quiz game. Most of the answers were Japanese trivia stuff that'd be hard to localize.

Yup. It got a new pass. He is once again "Shintaro Kazama".

I still have the original Japanese edition of Ryu Ga Gotoku for PS3. One of the trophies for Platinum involved beating all of Answer X Answer's quizzes 5 times each. There were 4 different styles and on the Yakuza 3 board, there was only one of us actually translating everything for the board (ThePatrick, who was amazing) .... He did the whole game for us, but couldn't come up with a way to deal with Answer X Answer. I remember him saying that even native Japanese speakers had a massively hard time with the game...... but I found a loop hole for 3/4 of the games, and the fourth game required random luck on getting the answers right.

In the end, I managed to get the Japanese platinum..... but man, one thing that really sucked was that Taisensha (the pink haired girl) was janky. There were times that, I am sure happened in that 1 hour video but I don't want to look for them, that she would buzz in on questions without the full question revealed. It was pretty bullshit.

Sure did. The original Yakuza 2 had an even earlier attempt where you basically chose to praise, admonish, or give the hostesses money and that was it.

3 and 4 go deeper into the "dress her up however you like" aspect, but it was still ultimately a pretty lame grind.
