Everyone talking about chains, but the statement wasn't even about chains. It was best restaurant, period.

I think my favorite cheap chain these days is Texas Roadhouse. Much, much better food and is cheaper than Outback.

yeah but for people who go to chains, they pretty much encompass all restaurants in their eyes

my family pretty much strictly eats at Chain restaurants

applebee's is fine, but it's a place that carries one particularly bad memory. a friend of mine and i went to eat, and he paid for my plate since i didn't have money at the time. when i received what i ordered, i noticed it looked considerably worse than any other time i had ordered before.

i thought about sending it back, but i just muttered to my friend it "didn't look right" and i heard him say "don't complain" in as plain and straight a matter he ever did. and the whole thing immediately made me feel about an inch high, and embarrassed to hell.

it was a moment, just a moment, and i doubt he even recalls it - but i do. and i just kinda can't believe how little awareness i had.

You know it's Applebee's, right? Why are you ordering a steak?

It's like going to a Chinese buffet and only eating pizza and french fries.

I had a good experience with Applebees. But I only ate there once and it was six years ago.

Applebees is pretty good for a restaurant frequented by people who make less than 30,000 a year and would still like good food.

but it's not exactly the go-to spot when your goal is to eat at a place that'll give you a tastebudgasm.

i can point to so many bars in my area that serve quality food at reasonable prices

I can think of bars and other places, too. but I thought we narrowed it down to just restaurants?

even so, other places being better doesn't necessarily change that Applebees is still good for those on a budget

edit: I'm also in So Cal, so I don't know if price differences vary or not.

Applebees whole gimmick is its a neighborhood bar and grill

like take this place for example:

reasonable prices comparable to Applebees, high quality local ingredients, a variety of options, and a 4.3 rating on google

obviously that doesnt help people who dont live in my city, but its not like places like this are that rare across the country

I have. Odd name but people use it to refer to places where a waiter/waitress seats you amd you order your food at a table rather than at the counter.

i dont remember if that was me or not but if it was the only reason i would have said it would be because making people recook stuff used to make me really nervous at resteraunts because i was afraid someone was going to spit in the food or bring out a dirty pitcher for drink refills or something and i didnt want to be caught in the crossfire

I grew up on Applebee's so when I heard how negative it's reputation was recently I felt a little winded. I haven't eaten there since I was a kid 15 years ago, but I'm sure they aren't terrible now.
