Yeah, sure is eye openning to see how all the intermision chapters that felt out of place are actually super important to the whole Cosmere narrative.

I'm halfway through Mistborn again.

Read SA straight through, then Alloy of Law.

What's the general chronological order, anyway?

I want to assume Elantris is first.

An Elantris character show up in SA, and a letter in SA makes reference to the events at the end of the first Mistborn trilogy.

I started reading the books after seeing the first season of game of thrones. But I'd have probably missed it as well

Wait what?

Friend,
Your letter is most intriguing, even revelatory. I would have thought, before attaining my current station, that a deity could not be surprised. Obviously, that is not true. I can be surprised. I can perhaps even be naive, I think. I am the least equipped, of all, to aid you in this endeavor. I am finding that the powers I hold are in such conflict that the most simple of actions can be difficult. I am also made uncertain by your subterfuge. Why have you not made yourself known to me before this? How is it you can hide? Who are you truly, and how do you know so much about Adonalsium? If you would speak to me further, I request open honesty. Return to my lands, approach my servants, and I will see what I can do for your quest
.

Marked spoilers for Mistborn and Oathbringer, altough nothing is explicitely stated.

Hoid writes a bunch of people and deities for help against Odium, they all shoot him down. Harmony seems more willing to help, but the nature of his powers makes any direct involvment difficult.

Sanderson is my favorite fantasy writer. Dude is lighting quick and produces high quality content.

And the fucking Cosmere!!!! This dude is on a whole other level with how large this whole thing is going to be. GRRM is a joke.

Oh man, finally something on CE that I am interested in.

Love me some SA and Cosmere, Only one I haven't read is Elantris; it just sounds BOOORING. But I thought SA was like that reading the description, but ended up enjoying it immensely and started reading it right after finishing it up on Audible.

What theories are you reading, TC, that made you realize you missed a lot? I'd like to get down in the nitty gritty details like I did with ASoIaF

I started out reading elantris, warbreaker, then mostborn era 1. Then I started SA and mostborn era 2.

I just started reading bands of mourning this week.

Going into SA I heard all these books connect in someway, but even despite looking for the connections, I didn't really put things together. I'd say the obvious connections weren't really shown until Oathbreaker.

I definitely missed the whole Zahel and Azure connection.

I'd say it's probably the interlude stuff that I missed. But to be fair to myself, it's probably something you wouldn't get until you re-read the stuff.

I guess when I initially read the books, I'm not focusing on making connections, or I'm just bad at it.

His first to get published, but not his first to be written. Dragonsteel is even earlier, but good luck getting your hands on that. Supposedly it will eventually be rewritten and published, and the BYU-library version is no longer canon, but that hasn't stopped people from making pilgrimages to read it.

i started reading The Way of Kings a couple months ago but i only got a few chapters in and it didn't quote hook me. some of the characters seem intriguing, and i really like the worldbuilding and depictions/descriptions of magic being utilized, but the prose is just really basic and weak, and the themes seemed so far to be similarly lacking. i know i probably need to get through more of it before i should be judging the thematic quality though. i've been meaning to get back to it.

Well if you're looking for strong prose you won't really be satisfied by Sanderson. He writes likeable characters and interesting plots, and of course builds awesome worlds but I don't think his prose will ever be high quality.
