He said believes most of the votes that went to Libertarian John Hicks, who received about 2% of the total vote, would have gone to Bevin and made him the clear winner.

That's bad

I mean that's embarrassingly bad. If it happens it's enough to make you stop voting for the modern Republican party.

But... those votes weren't for Bevin

He probably would've gotten some of those votes but I'd image a lot of them are Never Trump republicans that didn't like Bevin being a huge Trump ally--they would've probably not voted at all if there wasn't a third party candidate.

Under state law, Bevin has 30 days to formally contest the outcome once it is certified by the State Board of Elections. Candidates typically ask for a re-canvass of voting machines and a recount first.

The last contested governor's race was the 1899 election

Nobody has asked for anything yet, simmer down. We don't even know if he's going to ask for a recount.

Given that Republicans are prone to authoritarian power grabs whenever they lose elections legitimately I'd say this is a reasonable concern

The last contested governor's race was 120 years ago. So objectively that's not true, at least at this level.

I mean if you're being pedantic and limiting the scope of what I said to "contesting formally in government"

I was speaking more to the tantrums the GOP throws when they lose elections or receive unfavorable rulings

See: Arizona, North Carolina, Wisconsin, PA, Alabama, Maine

"Prone to tantrums" is significantly different from "prone to authoritarian power grabs", though. I'll totally agree they're prone to tantrums.

If you read the whole article, it says that the Legislature must judge based upon procedures established by law, and it sounds like there is no law on the topic, so any changes they attempted to make would be thrown out by the courts.

Scumbag-y indeed, but it doesn't sound like this is going to get very far.

And what's funnier about that is Clinton actually did get near 3 million more votes than Trump too

But does using a hashtag on Twitter change a presidential outcome the same way a state legislature reallocating votes would do?
