- making things open world, for no reason, when nobody asked, when it ruins the rest of the mechanics to even try
- making it accessible to noobs by nerfing skill-based performance advantages
- hiding game changing content behind an additional paywall or 50

These might not all be major enough, but here goes:

- Smearing the screen in blood or making things blurry (unless it's done more subtly) to replace a health bar
- Crafting systems that use generic crafting materials that you're meant to scrounge for everywhere
- Forcing everything (including cutscenes and conversations) into first-person (I used to think this was cool, but I've seen the light)
- Survival mechanics in non-survival games generally (like extremely limited carrying space), unless in a separate mode (e.g. New Vegas' Hardcore mode)

Trying to make familiar and necessary 'gamey' functions more realistic / immersive to the point of annoyance. I remember one of the Fables replaced the equipment menu with some magical closet where you had to wander around and find / actually put on all your equipment. I played that shit for all of a couple hours before finding something infinitely better to do.

Reminds me of Terranigma, which has something similar. You jump into a magical box, and each room is essentially a menu. It was cool and not *too* annoying, but I'd definitely rather have a regular menu.

Really upsets me when the game has a storage facility and puts a cap on it, like whats the point of having it then? I mean limited inventory in general sucks but thats worse.

What they should do is what the Ys series does and just place limits on each item like you can only carry 9 Potions, 5 Mega-Potions and 3 X-Potions. Or even Zelda has it figured out with bottles.

basically any time they forget to consider the player's time. remember legend of legaia? remember the combo system in legend of legaia? on paper, a combo system in an jrpg is fun and cool. in practice, it means 40 button inputs to do what other RPGs accomplish in five.
