I haven't had either. I have a small 50ml shot bottle of each.

I wanted to include regular jack daniel's but I didnt feel like spending $2.50 on something I am almost guaranteed to hate. I recall regular old JD being really harsh and disgusting, but Gentleman Jack should give me some idea if i'd like the same thing charcoal filtered once rather than twice.

You ever had these? thoughts?

Tennessee whiskey. A lot of brands have shitty entry level drinks, Jack Daniels is one(as far as I can last recall) but it isn't fair to judge brands based off of that.

These two are a step up so i'm gonna see what they are made of.

I'm not super into whisky, as in research, comparisons etc. I do enjoy drinking it. I feel like Gentleman Jack gives decent flavor for the money.

Okay so first up is Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack.

40% alcohol tennessee whiskey. I've heard its regular jack daniels filtered through charcoal(lincoln county process) twice as opposed to once. We'll see.

According to the website this is a mash bill of 80% corn, 12% barley and 8% rye. This doesn't call itself a bourbon but it likely is in all but name only. This is the same mash bill used in regular JD and single barrel, so if I don't like it I imagine I wouldn't like those other two.

It looks pale amber in color, and doesn't appear to be aged very long, which doesn't matter too much for American whiskies/bourbons from warmer climates

It doesn't smell too bad, but not amazing. It definitely has that bourbon-y smell which I always say is vanilla but my nose isn't so good. Not too harsh. Sipping is another matter but it smells like it should taste pretty good, and...

It actually is pretty good. Pretty smooth with a bit of harshness on the back end, but it appears easy to drink. I personally don't enjoy this a ton but I can't say I hate it, certainly not a bad choice. Tasting this I would avoid regular Jack, though.

Not being an expert and only getting into whiskey around 1.5 years ago, describing what I am smelling or tasting is a challenge and still not terribly easy to do, though that will come in time.

In Commievania, this bottle(750ml) retails at 33.99. IMO, not worth it. If you can find it cheaper, around 25 bucks, I'd say go for it, but I won't be buying it again. This is why I love shot sized bottles. I paid like 3.50 for this and thats all I need.

Single Barrel coming up next, though not for a while I do not want to drink these back to back.

Okay so on to the Single Barrel.

The term "single barrel" means through the entire process the whiskey from just one barrel is made at a time. This is unlike other whiskies that have tons of barrels mixed together during production when theyre cracked open. One barrel's whiskey traveling through the process.

Or so I think.

Anyways, this stuff comes in a cool looking bottle, and is 47% alcohol.

This appears a more dark amber color, several shades darker than Gentleman J.

At first all I could smell was acetone. But that isn't a bad thing. Some good bourbons lead in with acetone, such as Woodford Reserve Double Oak and Eagle Rare(to a much lesser extent. But after some time it opened up and smells like vanilla and cream. this smells great! Very Pleasant.

It feels like it has a very sweet taste. I don't seem to get much out of it but its a very capable sipper and like it well enough to not be disappointed. In commievania you can spend 48.99 on either this bottle or apparently one signed by Eric Church. I wouldnt pay that much. Smells heavnly but is one id pay 30-35 for maybe.

I almost wish I had bought a shot of regular jack daniels.

With 80% rye, 12% barley, and 8% rye for all 3 of the varieties it really is the same expression made in 3 different ways

1 filtration
2 filtrations
single barrel method, and i assume 2 filtrations and other stuff possibly

I saw how they make JD on Unwrapped once, and it's pretty cool. The vats the raw whiskey drips through are like 15 feet high, and hand-packed with pine charcoal.

As it turned out, they had a problem when burning the wood. Anything they used as an accelerant ended up lending that taste to the whiskey, so they ended up just using JD itself as the accelerant. ^_^

Don't you live in the Republican part of the state? And the liquor laws are Quaker/Puritan not communist in origin.

I live in a township outside of the second largest democratic center that votes republican, but its the suburbs so what do you expect?

And I call it commievania as a joke not really meant to be taken seriously.

I can't stand whiskey, never have been able to enjoy it. I always kind of wish I did like it because I like all the varieties, and it seems like something I could get into since I like high end coffee, beer and what not. Oh well, just not for me.
