Linda Hamilton was the worst part.

Not only was she basically only written to make references to the old movies and to be a pottymouthed grandmama and advance Carl's character development, she clearly just didn't give a shit. It was like watching Bruce Willis in Die Hard 5. The reanimated corpse of someone who used to be an actor plucked into the film to make money off of nostalgia. Arnold was kinda the same, but much, much less so, and they actually did some neat, if not interesting, stuff with him. Linda Hamilton literally is just there as a "The audience like her, right?" corporate mandate.

Other than that, the movie was.... fine? People weren't lying when they said its the best Terminator film in 28 years, whether they meant that as sincere or damning praise. I really liked Grace as a character and the opening action scene was really good. the closing one is so over the top and Roland Emmerichy that it just ended up being obnoxious. Antagonist terminator is a pale shadow of Robert Patrick. I dont understand why they wouldnt try to give it its own personality as a bad guy. Sure T1000 was stoic like the original Arnoldinator, but it was also clearly its own thing. This is literally just a Robert Patrick copypaste.

In terms of the overarching Terminator story universe the movie seems confused and is trying to have its cake and eat it too. It 100% casts aside that "no fate but what we make" ideology of the first two movies and go with the "Fate is inexorable" mantra of T3. At least according to the rise of the machines. If not Skynet then some other program. But at the same time, it still holds to the idea that killing one specific individual in the past (or making sure that individual was never born) completely stops the human rebellion from forming around a charismatic leader and forming a united resistance. You can't have it both ways, movie. If judgement day is inevitable, so is the resistance.

Overall, I'll say that while I have really no interest in revisiting the film in the future, its a pretty decent money and time sinker if you want a decent action movie.

Certainly better than Gemini Man.

Also saw a poster at the theatre. Apparently Roland Emmerich is making a movie about the battle of Midway and he has a Jonas brother in it? LMAO.
