The only thing I'll say on this is that I'm noticing more "women yay, men boo" moments in newer films, and it's getting eye-rollingly obvious and more and more shoehorned in in places where they don't need them. Here's a few examples.

Men in Black International: Chris Hemsworth says "we are the Men in Black" then pauses before saying "the Men and Women in Black" before turning and giving a literal thumbs up to Tessa Thompson. Why was this needed? Female Men in Black agents in these films don't need propping up. They've never been shown to be any less capable than their male counterparts. Hell in the first film the two leads are at one point spitting out mouthfuls of bug guts from a bug that was just exploded by the female lead, who then becomes an agent. It didnt feel hamfisted or like pandering there. It does here.

Dark Phoenix: at one point Mystique tells Charles "the women are always saving the men around here. Might want to change the name to 'X-Women'." Men and women both have superpowers in this universe. The superheroes in this film are less defined by their gender and more defined by their individual powers. If you took every X-man and reversed their gender, they'd still be the exact same superhero. Their gender is irrelevant, and that makes her line irrelevant too.

I think they did that for every movie since 3 and every time they make a big deal out of it.

The fact that its retconning both Genesys and Salvation alone makes it a winner in my book.

If only it wasnt retconning and invalidating 1 and Judgement day, too.

Literally retconned/burned down the entire story of the franchise so far just so they could tell literally the exact same story but with ladies now.

Series was much better when the time loop was stable.

So, I just got back from the movie.

I just hope the failure to break even doesn't hurt Mackenzie Davis. She was awesome as Grace and I want to see more movies with her in it. She could be this generation's go-to action lead. As in she gets to be the Arnold Schwarzenegger of the 2020s. She's that good.

They need Emilia Clarke back.

Is that the girl they are trying to protect or the one that they specifically tried to make look like she has no gender and you can't tell if it's a dude or a chick?

Mackenzie Davis is the one who looks like Dolph Lundgren. She did a fantastic job. Sex appeal doesn't matter when you're playing an action hero.

Natalie Reyes looks stellar though. It's a bit odd since she's playing a teen, but she's about twice the age of her character so I don't give a fuck if they say she's 16. She's 32 and legal.
