My credit card has literally no benefits for spending on it, so I only have it for emergencies.

A fancy metal credit card like the Amex platinum, or chase shappire reserved is arguably a cooler display of wealth and status.

Metal is cool but metal cards aren't hard to get though in my experience. I got the amazon prime card just for the $70 in amazon credit, which is (cheap) metal, and I got a capital one venture card that is (non cheap) metal I used for the spend X in X time frame bonus and then paid it off and cancelled before the $95 fee took hold. I have closed both accounts.

I never use a debit card pretty much for security reasons. It's usually deactivated unless I need to withdraw cash for whatever reason and I made it a point to never use it for any online purchases.

Credit card for all purchases for me.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but a credit card is much better to use in case your card number is stolen. Way less liability on you if you have a credit card info stolen versus your debit card. (edit - OK, 16 seconds before me now lol)

I used to use my debit card a lot until I realized I was getting no substantial rewards from it. I've got the Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited now and that's pretty much the only way I pay. I like it a lot more too because now I can see just how much I spend a month, while with my debit card I just see my money go down. If you can pay it off every month, I think it's the way to go.
