Is Diablo immortal the fourth installment of the Diablo franchise?

Does the OP state at which point in the Diablo Universe "Diablo 4" takes place?

Diablo 4 takes place after 3 because 4 comes after 3.

Diablo immortal is a spin-off and isn't the 4th release of the game even if it wasn't a spin-off.

Theres tons of examples of gaming franchises with spinoffs and side games released between numerical main games.

Additionally Blizzard wouldnt call it Diablo IV unless it was Diablo IV which has been the naming convention of the main games since II. Diablo: Hellfire wasnt Diablo II either.

Not sure what you hope to gain from sticking to your premise.

Diablo immortal is a phone game. It's not going to be the same thing as diablo 4

WoW is the fourth installment of the Warcraft franchise.

StarCraft Ghost wasn't officially cancelled until 12 years after it was announced.

NetEase has stopped development on Diablo Immortal.

Blizzard won't release the game. That's called a suspension. Because they won't release a date either, that's called indefinite.

Unlike StarCraft Ghost, immortal will probably come out eventually, however it has not done so yet which means it's not the 4th Diablo release as there's potential for another game to be released before immortal. They may also decide to release immortal and 4 simultaneously.

Exactly, may. Diablo 4 and immortal may be the same game. They may use Immortals story on a traditional Diablo PC game, and call it 4, to distance themselves from the announcement fiasco.

They are different games. Nor would it avoid any kind of fiasco to rebrand immortal as Diablo 4 but would actually make it worse.

But the point that you're trying to dodge here is that Diablo Immortal is not the fourth game in the series simply because it's not out and there is no guarantee it will ever release right now.

It's "likely" going to release but Activision Blizzard are not afraid to put the bullet in the head of a project just because they think it won't make enough money and have done so in the past (DJ Hero being the most infamous one)

I didn't realize any of this. Now I'm distracted. Hong Kong what? Who got banned? For what?

Kidding aside though I'm still not sure in this day and age how to separate how I feel about a few decision makers who make bad choices that unfortunately represent a whole lot of other people. I respect the artists, designers, and other people at blizzard who've made games I really enjoy, and seem committed and passionate about what they do in spite of the increasingly abrasive stances of management, and decisions geared toward the highest profit in every situation over the better interest of people.

It could be related to the leaks beforehand but that's about it.

They are going to dodge anything related to Hong Kong and all questions are going to be vetted through employees.

However the reaction to Immortal from last year did actually change things. The game was originally set to be released early this year but it never happened. They decided Diablo 4 was probably close enough to release candidate that they would just stall until that was ready and they will probably do a little bit of cross promotion like buy Diablo 4 and get permanent VIP status in immortal.

Yeah outside of trying their best to avoid any mention of Hong Kong these announcements were always happening this year. If anything yeah it's more of a reaction to their controversy last year.
