If I use AR to change a Pokemon's ability to another legal ability will it change properly when it evolves? So if I change Tyrogue from Steadfast to Guts will it get Intimidate like normal, or will I have to manually change it over as a Himontop?

You can only change the value in the ability parameter

It would change, some evolved pokemon dont share the same ability as the previous mons.

Slaking being a prime example.

I'm just using common sense...

In reality there is likely a property assign to whether or not a pokemon's ability changes on evolution, so there would be two versions of the code. One that makes a permanent change and one that makes a change that doesnt hold upon evolution

Also, intimidation is a shitty ability anyway

iirc, no. You have to also change an hidden value inside the Pokemon as well in order for the game to think that you using the right ability "Guts", because when it's evolving the game will think that it has Steadfast in the background so it will give you Technician instead.

Digivolution can result in, like, 20 different results. Some wildly different from each other. Pokemon evolution usually results in a product similar to the base (Pokemon like Octillery notwithstanding.)

There are some Pokemon (mainly stone evos) that stop learning moves when they evolve. So if you want a Raichu with Light Screen or Thunderbolt without needing a Tm, you need to hold off on making it one until Pikachu learns them.
