I mean I've had them get bendy or whatever but they still function.

The only time I've used paper straws is when my local milkshake place started using them. I don't know how well they work on regular drinks, but they are completely nonfunctional on milkshakes.

Thankfully they figured this out after a few weeks and went back to normal straws.

If anyone cares I found some research into the carbon footprint/embedded energy costs of different types of straws. Anyone with any intelligence would of course not pass any judgment on straws of a particular type without including this data as part of their analysis.

maybe. I got one at Lincoln Park Zoo once and it was like a 20 something oz drink and it was already falling apart by the time I finished it and I drink pretty fast

The only time I've used a paper straw was when I had a frozen margarita at Sea World. It stayed intact long enough for me to finish my drink without issue, but boy did it not feel right in my mouth.

The main issue with paper straws isn't the structural integrity, it's the taste. Your tongue is touching paper so you taste the paper along with whatever it is you're drinking

Bubble tea works fine with plastic straws actually, since you don't have the problem of the straw hole pinching the paper until it becomes useless like with an iced coffee lid or something. I support paper straws, but if you're gonna do that you need to change some of the closed lids that are used as well.
