If I were an employer or boss I'd think that's quite short.

Yet they don't give you a two week notice if they plan to fire you. I think 2 weeks if perfectly fine for giving a notice.

I mean it varies from case to case. My old job I could've quit on the spot and nobody would've batted an eye. But at my current role, there are things left to transition that would be bad if dropped outright.

Its standard, but I gave 3-weeks last time because I was on a travel case from hell.

Your new employer doesnt want to wait long to get you on board. Youre old employer will understand because they are on the same boat when they hire other people. Nobody can fault you for a 2-weeks notice.

Eh, unless you do all unbelievably specialist job then the company will be able to get by for a few weeks either a) having your remaining equivalent colleagues share your extra workload and/or postpone non essential work or b) hire someone with the skills from a temp agency to cover the gap of the recruitment process.

Intentionally so. If you give a 4 week notice, and you really need those 4 weeks of pay to move for your next job, or whatever, what happens when your job starts fucking with you? Or just says well, we don't need you. Employers don't have to give any notice, so they fire you immediately and you're screwed because you wanted to be nice and give a long notice.

Plus it's just weird, hanging around for a month or more when everyone knows you don't wanna be there.

Bruh the two weeks after I gave my notice at my first job was the best. Getting paid to fuck around with zero expectations? Sign me up.

It should be like The Apprentice, where they gather everyone in a room and then fire you on the spot
