You come in, tell them if you're single (and I guess your orientation?) then they sit you at a seat with a divider in front. Then they raise it and sitting across is another single person.

Would ya do it?

Edit: I swear I saw a video on this but can't seem to find it. Hol up

Considering the "birth crisis" the rest of the world hears about, I'm not sure you want to consider matchmaking attempts in Japan as successful options...

The funny thing about telling others to take the high road is how often it's hypocritical advice.

Well, I guess it doesn't have to be in Japan. I'm more talking about the concept than anything

If you want to try speed dating, matchmaking etc, you do you.
Give yourself whatever opportunities you need.

Just don't go in expecting a fairy tale outcome. These are "desperate measures" no matter how you cut it...

Personally, no. I haven't needed to, but I've never shamed anyone for trying.

I don't particularly recommend speed dating events for lonely men, however. It's like 90% of said events are hosted by female organizers who are naturally more often focused on catering to women clientele. Very few of them (running the events on their own) actually have any decent insight in what most men looking for relationships want. And the few male organizers tend to present the same biased approach as well. Which is why some of these events have been unintentionally cancelled...not enough clients showed up. Specifically not enough men interested. Sometimes it's the other way around, but for whatever reasons it's notably more common for a lack of guys to cause cancellation.

Think about it. If a woman is a hottie with a likable personality (by men's standards), she's typically going to have less reason to resort to speed dating events (that cost $$$ btw). She will generally already have an assortment of men approaching her without assistance. Which means she's less likely to show up to the events. And that leaves...

I have not used matchmaking services either, but I've noticed some of the higher-end businesses involved in hitching my friends had much more competent and experienced coordinators who weren't afraid to bluntly admit "yeah women tend to look for this, men tend to look for that, here's the ice cold statistics...roll with it or we can't help you ". Keep in mind, the better quality services tend to be considerably expensive as well. That's to be expected since many of them will basically be doing most of the footwork for you. It's like paying for election campaign staff.

I wouldn't really trust nor pay for a little "mom & pop" matchmaking service anymore. Even free, it's typically not a good deal since charity does not mean quality and commitment.
