It's not that much worse than the first movie, tbh.

It's probably the best Avengers movie though all of them are pretty bad so it's not saying much

AoU is really good and it stayed surprisingly relevant all the way through Endgame with how much story it set up.

i didn't like AoU very much at the first watch but it actually turned out to be key for the infinity saga + quite enjoyable in later watches

They sucked in general.
Let's go through them
Avengers 1 was literally
Iron Man makes friends with Thor and helps Bruce be less worried. But really the movie is Loki is bad
Avengers 2 is first part of the movie is Scarlett Witch magics bad thoughts into them. Ultron is awake because Thor something mindstone vision in a magical vision quest. Wanda decides to join
Avengers Infinity War Let's split up gang cause Thanos is here!
Avengers: Endgame Uh so like years passed and we had nothing to do, Thanos is back, clusterfuck of a battle because lolz EVERYONE needs a cameo. Could we have waited any fucking longer to get Carol to curbstomp him?

It's easily the worst of them although it has its charms in places.

The humour is really obnoxious and the pacing is weird which impacts on the setup and main villain feeling sort of unfleshed out

Its quite a bit worse than the first movie and also the last hour of the film is the same as the first movie, which even if they were the same quality, would be a bad thing.

The reason AoU is the strongest is because it actually works well for an attempt at trying to copy some sort of comic plot instead of just saying "okay so kinda like, we have somr sort of plot to follow but let's ignore it all for more churazee action"

When a new comic is released, do you complain that it shit all over previous comics, or are you smart enough to realize that new adaptations of something can do their own thing?

"I read comics." Okay, and?

You realize that there are hurdles in the way of making it a shot for shot reimagining to have it the way they did in comics?

If you could remove your unrealistic expectations you wouldn't be so disappointed.

The first Avengers did nothing for me beyond 'Puny God' and other examples of Hulk hulking it out in the final battle. Winter Soldier and GotG were what got me genuinely invested in the MCU, so by the time AoU rolled around my feelings toward the franchise were much more positive.

I can see how that might be the case (visually it def has ages) but I still think the overall comicy charm of it wins out. AOU by comparison is all a bit snarky and eyerolly (also I really don't like some of the design choices for it, like quicksilvers outfit or that awful Scarlett witch accent and stuff like that which is minor but adds up)

So they tried to do a plot from the comics and couldn't. But still put it out as a comic movie.
Imagine if we got Batman and decided for Joker instead of being the psychotic clown we get him being a hippy because it's "an attempt"

Again. Your complaint is "they didn't copy this arc page for page and panel for panel."

That's a shitty argument.

If you said, "it just wasn't a good story/plot in spite of their limitations." I would be less inclined to call you out on your nonsense.

applauding russo brothers and others for making AoU work so well.

AoU gave us:
stark's premonition scene
vision + SW
hawkeye's family leading to the intro to endgame
hammer lifting scene obv
thor ragnarok feat. the fucking hulk
taste of upcoming BW movie
start of the conflict between cap and tony which gave us civil war and also referenced in the beginning of endgame

It seems weird to defend AOU for being faithful to the comics when they took what was seemingly a long term, world changing event and instead made it like a seemingly week long inconvenience localised mostly to a corner of Eastern Europe

Time skips happen all the time in the MCU. That's not the problem

The point of AoU is that it follows an actual logical plot that would make sense with or without it being based on comics..
Most of the others didn't.

Taking liberty means not having Adam Strange, the Abstracts, Fantastic Four, Xmen etc.
It means not following the comics directly.
But the entire (MCU spoilers for everything) storyline is literally Thanos the ultimate badguy. Everything before him was pointless or he was really in charge
The exception being AoU AoU had no "this is to help make Thanos a threat which is why it works and is the only decent one

Same here actually. The only other MCU films I saw at the time of Avengers was Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk. I really liked them both, but Avengers was a step down for me outside of the climactic battle (which I won't deny was fucking awesome).

But Guardians of the Galaxy was what got me into the MCU proper. It was the first MCU film I've seen since the Avengers. It's still my favorite MCU film to date.

It's nothing to do with a time skip. There is zero effort made to emphasise how significant the rise of Ultron is. In the comics, from my limited knowledge, Ultron literally hunted people down all over the world. Most of the reaction to Ultron in AOU is the Avengers in a room discussing how screwed they are. The climatic battle is them one shotting a load of CGI robots in the least engaging way possible in a tiny piece of fictional Eastern Europe. The threat level compared to Ultron in the comics is tiny
