Yes sir, that's the dream. My wife currently makes 2.5 my salary. If she ever gets a crazy ass raise again, we've discussed it.

If shes rich and has already given me a decent chunk of bread, sure. That way, even if she suddenly leaves me, Ive still got enough to live comfortably for at least a few years.

Could she provide for us both with money to spare while at the same time not overworking etc? And if she really wants to provide for me? Sure why not, I don't mind working but I really like not working

Noone is worried about their household being dependent on a single income?

I have a good enough CV that I could easily start working again if my wife for some reason had to quit

Even if you took significant time out of the workforce?

I recall there was a discussion on CE not long ago around the challenges faced by those who took career breaks (eg to raise a family) and struggled to get employment afterwards.

Live within the means of that single income.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Yeah, even then. The industry is screaming for my skills, maybe I wouldn't be able to find something great right away, but I'd be able to find something. And I'd likely be working a little bit on hobby stuff in the meantime so I might have a nice portfolio still.

This alone makes me not want to risk quit working altogether. At the very least I'd want to work at least two days a week.
Aside from that I really want to pull my weight when it comes to income, provide my part and all that. For the record, I'd also not approve if my partner would quit working altogether in this scenario.

I don't like the dynamics in a single family house. Seems like if I was the provider, I'd feel significant stress in knowing that I can't fuck up and get fired, or else the whole family is screwed.

If I'm the caregiver, I become financially dependent on another person.

Both are bad spots to be in

It's not so much about the means but as others have pointed out, the risk of losing an income and the impact that has on the income provider (eg what if he/she hates their job or loses it unexpectedly).

Agreed. I actually talked to my wife about maybe we both switch to part time (4 days a week) since we want to spend time with our daughter and both of us are on reasonably healthy incomes even if we switch to part time. The bigger issue is whether we'd still end up with 100% of the work but only 80% of the pay!
