It's on sale on the e-shop

I get that it's some sort of fan-servicey game but what actually is it? Is it fun? Is the music good at least?

it's final fantasy pokemon

although be warned it can be incredibly slow, maps can suck ass, and the encounter rate can be frustrating as hell at times, given that encounters aren't kept to "wild grass" so essentially every map is a cave

I played the original release and it has it's charms. I enjoyed playing it but you're not missing out if you don't get it.

just gonna copy/paste my frustration post from a couple dillos topics ago

in the mean time I'm getting through World of FF because Celes... but my godddddddd everything about the game is so incredibly slowwwwww, and the last 2 dungeons were so god awful... not that any dungeon has been at all good but it's starting to become too much of a chore... Big Bridge literally just a pair of long straight lines and since I'm OCD I gotta go up and down both sides for any worthless loot and did I mention the game is full of terrible frequent random encounter rates

also for some reason at one part of Big Bridge you can't do anything until a cutscene happens... but like the cutscene only activates if you happen to go to a very specific spot on the floor that isn't at all significant

y'know what I'm gonna MSPaint it because any description won't sound like a real problem

8u05V34

red squares are jump pads you take, basically to get from the base floor to the stairs portion, so you gotta take that red jump square at the bottom left to get up to the right square

but this is actually just the introduction of "jump pads" so you don't know what they are and you can't even use them until you see a cutscene (with Bartz) that teaches you about them... and that cutscene inexplicably only shows up if you specifically walk to the spot where I drew the green circle

aughhhh I was walking all over that right field like "uhhh I guess this red square is something to get me up there maybe?" but nothing happened, I walked all around that right wing and no cutscene occured so I walked to the previous room thinking maybe I missed something but nope and did I mention how terrible the encounter rate is in this game and thus this whole time I'm getting back into slow battle sequences over and over

eventually I popped open a youtube vid and saw there's a cutscene that activated so I specifically walked to the same spot the person in the video was when it started... and yup there we go

ffff

next world wasn't linear but sooo damn huge and they don't warn you that you'll need a couple monsters basically with Pokemon HM skills... the first ability fine it's early but then there's another obstruction so if you didn't bring someone with Smash you gotta slowly walk back to the start to switch around your pokemon party and come back and did I mention how much I hate the encounter rates

and the level just keeeeps gooooing for no real reason, everything's just the same so you're just slowly proceeding and fighting a bunch of random encounters until the game finally decides it's been long enough

augh

but at least that was the level that unlocked Celes as a "party member" so I got her finally, phew

I like Pokemon clones so I liked WoFF, though I didn't quite make it to the end. Also frequent random encounters are great when one of your goals is to level up and evolve every monster!

it wouldn't be so bad in WoFF if only your move speed wasn't a turtle's pace :'(

update: I'm like in the last chapter but I never ended up finishing it off

it might not be so painful if you don't have OCD making you check every nook & cranny and you're just going through casually maybe

sounds like a pass from me

how about the following (if you're bored)

bastion
transistor
axiom verge
hyper light drifter
blossom tales

just looking for something fun and short on the e-shop. I've played most of the other major ones (celeste, golf story, hollow knight, etc)

What are the changes for maxima? Surely they fixed the encounter rate.

IMO the references and funny script make it worth a playthrough
