I've done that kinda job before. Those really are bottom-of-the-barrel worst. One call center I worked at had that rule, and you could get in trouble for finishing up a call, setting yourself to unavailable mode, and running to the bathroom even for a minute. Your metrics accounted for it and you'd get in trouble and lectured by your team leader for it.

The place also had like a 60% turnover rate within the first 6 months of being hired, and bathroom breaks as a privilege weren't even the worst things about that place. It's really bad when you like the random callers who are predispositioned to be in a bad mood (because their internet doesn't work) more than any of your higher-ups.

The jobs I've had since looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if we could just use the bathroom whenever. It's a truly ridiculous policy.
