Required? No. Though I think if I started looking like a wizard people might say something.

That was always super weird to me

You don't fucking own me, boss. "You represent the company" -- the uniform you pay me to wear represents the company, you have no right to my body image

No. The ratio of employees being clean-shaven to having some amount of facial hair is fairly balanced.

Yes. I have to wear a breathing air mask though, so it's required for it to seal properly.

Yes, but I only shave on Monday. By Friday I've got some serious scruff happening but no one gives a shit because it's the end of the week.

Nope

And tbqh it would be a dealbreaker for me. I've had a beard for almost 20 years and it's part of my personal image. My wife and son have never even seen me clean shaven. No way I would let an employer exercise that level of control over me.

No. Last time I shaved everything was for a respirator fit test, but trimmed around my goatee when it grew back.

No, but there is a limit. We use rotary tools and lathe equipment, so if it's too long, they make you tie/band the bottom. Similarly, girls have to keep long hair pulled back for the same reason.

I mean, if I was unkempt as fuck, they'd be annoyed. But I have a massive beard that's well-kept, so it's good.

Surprisingly, no. I work in China and beards/tattoos are usually frowned upon, especially in education. I keep my beard trimmed and no longer go for the lumberjack look but it's still pretty full. I also have a tattoo on my hand that I don't cover up but I do wear long sleeved undershirts to cover my sleeves.

Never had an issue in China either. Only one school tried to tell me I had to shave my beard and it was during my 3 day in school training for my TEFL certificate. It was basically volunteer work. I laughed at the school director and said that wasn't going to happen because you aren't paying me for my services.

I had one school offer me a job but the agent said it was mandatory for men to be clean shaven (it wasn't a school rule but an agency rule). I again laughed at them and said I wasn't interested in working for the agency. I moved to China about 10 days later. I haven't been clean shaven in 15 years, sure as fuck not starting now.
