One day I came up to a stop sign. Across from me was a car that was at their stop sign before I was. We both wanted to turn in the same direction (north) on a two way, 4-lane road. They had to cross the southbound lanes to go northbound, while I just had to turn into the northbound lanes. I was free to turn, so I turn into the left lane of the northbound side. Same time, other car turns and almost hits me. Did I have right-of-way for being on the side I was turning on, or did they have right-of-way for being at the stop sign before I was? We both had to wait a few seconds at the stop because of traffic.

You would've been at fault. You turn into the nearest lane, so you turned into their lane
