Current Events > Dead Cells is strangely compelling. What did you think?

I honestly didn't even really want to pick up this game because it looked frankly quite boring, and the art style was nothing terrific. But I did, because it had nothing but rave reviews.

It's the promise of things being better on each successive run. You'll be slightly stronger, have slightly better equipment, will get slightly further. Hard to explain but it just sucks you in, blogfaqs.

i can't put together the words to disagree hard enough with your initial impressions.

but yeah i love the game. i've played it on and off since i bought it around two years ago. there's so many different builds and sometimes you just get that perfect run where everything just goes your way. its nice that the game lets you become overpowered as all hell will still being incredibly vulnerable to everything. i haven't played anything else quite like it.

We should ask IGN what they think about the game.

I like it a lot, enough to maybe buy it for PS4 and I already have it on PC. It's really fun.

idk, i lost interest. my biggest problems with metroidvanias is the tedious, considerable amount of backtracking and wandering through screens you already got through 1,000 times, and Dead Cells is literally tedious, considerable amount of backtracking and wandering through screens you already got through 1,000 times: the game

i like rogue-likes, but dead cells doesn't do enough to keep my attention. you have 2 paths to go, then 4, then one needs a certain item, then THAT path needs another item, then you find the item, die, and forget where the fuck you were trying to go in the first place

There are so many beautiful looking indie games around right now I just feel a bit jaded by it at this point. Before this I'd played through the entirety of Hollow Knight. At the same time, I was considering picking up Gris. Few games look beautiful after that.

Gris is good, but there's not much to it. It's more of a way to just relax than it is a videogame, if that makes sense.

Still fun and beautiful, though.
