With Link's Awakening out, I thought it might be a good entry point into non-sidescrollers, since it has a nice aesthetic and is still 2D.

My mom used to play Links Awakening on GameBoy. I would try to play it but couldnt make much sense of it because I was so young, but I have fond memories of crowding onto our oversized recliner to watch her play it. Now she plays Toy Blast on her iPad.
Ive thought about getting her a Switch or maybe a refurbished 3ds but I dont know that shed play it much. She usually works on her art now that shes retired. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

eh, I wish I could do this but my parents are set in their ways. my dad refuses to touch any games. my mom just plays puzzle stuff on her ipad
maybe if I had tried to play with them when I was a kid and they were younger, I might have been able to get my mom into it. maybe. but I think it's a lost cause now. my dad especially just has it in his head that video games are just toys for kids. and he has never understood why I still play them as an adult. but that is cool about your mom. how old is she? ... I mean Lost Levels isn't some retcon thing of modern times. it actually WAS around back then. it just never came to America on the nes in it's original release. in japan, what we call Lost Levels they call Super Mario Brothers 2 ... She got into Crash Team Racing later as well, she and my grandpa would race together on nights there wasn't anything they wanted to watch on TV. Heartwarming.
