IGN can confirm the accuracy of a recent Facebook video, which appears to show what one of the redesigned GameStop stores could look like under the company's GameStop Reboot plan.

A GameStop store in Pryor, Oklahoma posted a video tour of what looks like a new layout for the store. A source familiar with GameStops operation, whos requested anonymity, has confirmed that the store matches the blueprint layout of the redesigns shown at GameStops annual conference.

IGNs sources say theres a test store in Oklahoma, the same state from which this video is from. A second source familiar with GameStop's future reboot plans said that not all stores will look like the one in the video, with some stores redesigned to focus more on esports, retro games (as shown here), or a more traditional design similar to existing stores. Other features, like the wall-mounted tablet, are more universal features that corporate will implement across all stores.

The new store appears to ditch the glossy, black and white aesthetic of current GameStop locations. Instead, the store now sports a more muted, gray color aesthetic with faux wood paneling. The store is also sleeker and more streamlined, with cleaner rows of games, as well as a small table for video game apparel and figures. Theres also a wall-mounted tablet in the store that customers can order from, as well as a sofa and HD TV located in the middle of the store.

Furthermore, in the back of the store is a new space filled with CRT TVs and tables, apparently used for tabletop games. This would align with GameStops previously stated goals of turning stores into event spaces where they could host live tournaments and live events.

There's apparently fewer displays to kick over during the usual gamestop tantrums, so that's a start.

The retro stuff is neat. Looks like they went the cheap route, but most people won't notice. It would've been really cool if they had invested in a BVM/PVM setup or RGB upscaled for a modern display w/ a Framemeister... but still, I like the concept.

Unless they can do better than 27 copies of Mario Bros/Duck Hunt on the shelf and an overpriced loose Earthbound cart under the glass, I don't see this amounting to very much.

All that does, is get 27 copies of Madden 2002 on the shelf, and an overpriced beat up copy of Tron Bonne under the glass.
Maybe also a grossly overpriced copy of PSO 1&2 Plus under the glass.

The problem with this approach is going to be branding: why would anyone stop going to their local comic shop for card/tabletop gaming and start going to a Gamestop of all places? I suppose in areas where this environment just doesn't exist at all it could work, but they're basically appealing to a group that NEEDS to support local comic shops or it goes away entirely.

As cool as the idea of playing retro games are, why don't they just use the Nes/Snes/PS1/Genesis mini? Theres already 30 games on it each and the customers can pick one up after trying it out.

Didn't read the article but it's cool that they're adapting. I assume they're going more digital based and becoming a more PC-friendly store.

They really should rename it Funcoland and make it about hanging out there. That's how it was when I was a kid. Going to Funcoland wasn't going to a store, it was where I'd go and hang out for what seemed like hours. It was one of my favorite places to go.

Physical games cant be taken away due to licensing. They also arent tied to an account. Best of all you can share physical with whoever you want.

That's the other thing, every GS I've been to is a hole in the wall.

Digital is more convenient, but physical is nice as a failsafe

Digital games get removed from eshops all the time, you can't just disappear someone's physical copy
