I legit would be set with 50k, I make 25k before taxes now so double that would be a huge boon.

15k comes out to $288 a week. I can be just fine on that. Money doesn't bring happiness and I'm a man of few needs.

Nebraska Lol what a load of shit Living in Omaha on a household income of 75k with two newish cars in a 6 bedroom house built 15 years ago. Plenty happy. Though with an extra 23k a year we'd probably take a couple kick-ass vacations each year --- "I like turtles" ... Copied to Clipboard!

I need to eventually get major reconstructive foot surgery, but ignoring that and factoring in my current living conditions $50k a year would be a lot of money.

15k comes out to $288 a week. I can be just fine on that. Money doesn't bring happiness and I'm a man of few needs. 15k is 1250 per month, but this is all pre-tax. In my area: Cheap rent is $800/mo. Utilities (gas, electric, water, maybe trash) are $100-200. Assuming you have your car paid off because it's a cheap $500-1000 car, insurance is still ~$50-150. Internet and phone is $100-200. You have $200 left for food, debt, savings, and entertainment. Oh, but SS and tax withholdings are ~10%, so that's $125 gone. Now you have $75. If you want to contribute 2.5-5% to pre-tax savings, you're going to end up in the red. --- "You're sorely underestimating the power of nostalgia goggles." - adjl http://www.smbc-comics.com/comics/20110218.gif ... Why such a huge jump between 15k and 50k? I was considering to do every $15k, but the choices started to get too fine; so did a big jump at the beginning. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Depends on your definition of "comfortable". I'm not comfortable with the fact that I have to dedicate more than a third of every weekday to some job. Wanting to reduce hours would have me getting paid far less and with no benefits, plus less stability. So really, being comfortable for me would be having enough money to quit my job and just live off of savings.
To follow the definition of this topic, I'd go with $50k a year as the closest option as my living expenses are very low. I could make $15k a year work, but I wouldn't be comfortable doing it. For my own definition of comfortable, I'd like about $1 million in savings that I could throw into index funds and live off 3-4% income in the form of dividends (which would actually be taxed lower than if I earned that by working, thanks to the twisted value system we have in our economy). Thankfully my salary is significantly beyond what I gave as my topic-definition answer for "comfortable" so that I can hopefully retire early to carry out my real comfortable plan as outlined by my own definition. --- ...
