I am satisfied with this adaption. The second movie wasn't as good, it felt very formulaic when the adults split up to find their artifacts. Tho that part also had the best scare (not scarywise), but the whole thing with Richie being afraid of people knowing he is gay was a very well made to show the fear.

I'm not a guy that get scared of horror movies, but some parts were disturbing, the most effective scene for me was when Richie was hit by the deadlights. Overall the monsters looked more cartoonish this time for some strange reason, and the CGI quality seemed worse. And they kept reusing the same scary stunts from the first movie with small changes, it got a bit tiresome after awhile.

I was annoyed how they yet again ruined Mike. Oh well.

But the other characters were great, Eddie and Richie were the best, damn. Also I can't believe how well the adult Ben's actor could channel the kid.

With most of the negatives gone. I overall loved it. It felt like a journey more than a horror movie, which is what I felt when I read the book. They kept the heart of the story while chaning things, I don't mind it when they do that well, some things like Mike no so good. I loved that they had the Ritual in it, even if they kinda handled it in a way I didn't want it. Pennywise when we see him as Bill Skarsgard was always amazing. The final battle was great imo, I was a bit sad we didn't get to see the eggs. I think there isn't really much more you can do without having some trippy psychic battle. This was more simplified, and they kept the creature being mystical instead of a big spider monster you beat to death.

IT Chapter 1: 9/10
IT Chapter 2: 7.5/10

Overall: 8.5/10

I don't mind sitting for a long time watching movies etc. But this did feel a bit long, but it was imo the way they did pacing. And it was that one part like one third to the movie where it was a bit stale. But it did pick up and ended well imo.

Was Richie actually supposed to be gay? I completely missed that. I mean he was there playing Street Fighter with that other kid and then asked him if he wanted to hang out, right? Then the other kids made fun of him for it but I didn't think that was supposed to mean he was gay... Is there another part I missed?

The whole part in the park where Pennywise was saying he knows who he is, and all the people looking at him etc. And in the end he finished his carving R + E, E for Eddie, he was most likely in love with him.

He actually had an adult fear, which I think they represtented well, and I could even relate.

He also totally lost his shit over Eddie dying and basically refused to leave him and had to be pulled away by the others. I think that's the part that clued me in. During the arcade scene I thought maybe he just didn't want to go home because he had a rough family life (like a few of the others). It's been a while since I saw the first one so I can't recall if they ever showed his house.

Maybe it's because I could relate, but I understood it very quick, I got it already at the arcade scene when he briefly touched the other dudes hand.

Ritchie being gay is honestly a brilliant addition, but they handled it in such an awful, hamfisted method.

So wait is Eddie gay too then?

Also did others notice that Mortal Kombat 2 was next to them in the arcade which obviously shouldn't have been out at that time?

Nah. I mean, I guess he could have been gay or bi.. but there was nothing in either movie to suggest that and he had a wife unlike Ritchie who wasn't shown to be involved with anyone.

Mortal Kombat 2 was there? Didn't see it, lol. Movie ruined.

Yeah, it really goes to show we were paying attention to completely different things in that scene. This article mentions it being there but doesn't remark on the historical inaccuracy...

I picked up on the gay thing pretty easily. I thought it was handled very well. The gf didn't actually notice that he was in love with Eddie until I mentioned it later.

I thought it was kinda hinted in the first film: Richie would always go after Eddie all the time, felt like he was confused and this is how kids can deal with crushes.

I plan on watching the second one when I get off work today. I really liked the first one as a great coming-of-age Goonies style film, but as a horror movie it was eh. There was some good stuff here and there, but it wasn't that scary and relied a bit too much on jump scares.

I'm hearing divisive things about the second one, which isn't too shocking to me. But fuck it, I'm gonna see it anyway.

I imagined that since you liked the coming of age part. Even in the book the adult part was the less interesting part.

Going in, I figured that if I didn't like it that would be the case. But it wasn't really just that. The movie was kind of just goofy and not in a charming way. A lot of it was unintentional, and the bits that weren't just felt odd.

It tends to make his first kill something particularly vicious and jarring to set fear across Derry, same thing he did with Georgie. It's also a display of how Derry is corrupted by It's influence.

It'd be badly out of place anyway, since it shits on all the themes that actually make that a good scene, despite the trolling around it.
