If you retire at 65 and live until 85, that's 20 years' worth of sufficient money that you need to have saved up or owed to you.

No - I've accepted the fact that I'll die working at some hard manual labor job into old age because I got fired from my professional job for being too old

I already know I won't have shit. I've been unemployed most of my adult life. I might have a new job soon but it's part time minimum wage. I live on SSI and housing assistance and food stamps. I know I will always be like this. and I've accepted it

No, I've maxed out my 401k and IRA for many years now. That excludes other investments.

No. I'm more worried about losing my job before retirement age, so I am saving up extra.

I don't make great money, and I doubt I will ever put in the work to get anything significantly better. But my house is going to be paid off by the time I'm 38, so that will be an extra $800 a month. I try to put away $2000 a year in retirement right now. Between all that, the $28k I currently have in retirement, possible inheritance from my aunt, and the possibility that Social Security will still be solvent by the time I'm retired I think I will be alright.

Long as I dont lose my job. Work pension is decent. Hopefully be mortgage free in 2 years if things go well. Then will save up more. My emergency fund is good for 1 or 2 years if I didn't work at all.
