Knives are better in close proximity. You never know who knows how to go about disarming someone.

Because the camera isn't clear what happens at the end, there are two opposite scenarios:
A) Guy throws away the firearm, and calmly gives himself up.
B) Guy keeps the firearm in his hands, and approaches the other police officers.

If it was (A), I would lean towards that shooting him was unjustified; if it was (B), I would lean towards that shooting him was justified.

The guy fired at the cops again after they approached.

Where'd you get that information? Here are two sources that say the condition of the suspect is unknown:

Literally taking the gun makes shooting him justified. End of story.

I missed that; I would say shooting him is justified at that point.

From the responding officers' POV, if the guy wasn't holding a weapon, the responding officers do not have a way of knowing that he took the female officer's service weapon and fired at her (unless she was able to communicate that to them in the ~5 seconds it took them to respond).

You could get it away from the officer and quickly remove the clip. Throw them in different directions and wait for their backup to arrive. Hopefully they don't just shoot you and just pull the officer off you and try to figure out what all went on.

At least you'd be livin'.

I've seen videos of people disarming people and then tossing the gun rather than shooting it at the other person. It's massively risky but if you figure you'll likely end up dead either way....why not try?

I do. I also know that literally assaulting a cop isn't going to do you any favors in a situation where your interaction is neither justified nor reasonable.

But you already knew that.

I think it shouldn't count as assault if all you've done is snatched something out of someone's hand. The police consider everything assault. They've actually charged people with it because they farted while getting handcuffed.

There is a still of both the female officer and the suspect further down the thread.

He missed her, shot once at the cops after raising his hands as they opened their doors and also survived being shot.

From the sound of it, he was shot a bunch of times...or their accuracy is laughable.

Yeah, the plural of shot being shot is kind of annoying.

"I've been shot." "How bad is it?" "I dunno, I was hit about 6 times"

Then again, police accuracy is pretty shit.

https://fox6now.com/2019/09/04/video-shows-man-seize-california-deputys-gun-shoot-at-her-in-violent-attack/

The kid is 21 years old, he didn't die according to the article. He was having an argument with his mom, and his mom called the cops on him to get him out of the house.

Domestic violence, I don't know if it's increasing in the United States, but I am seeing and hearing a lot of it. You have to wonder how much time this guy is going stay in the pen. I'm guessing 25-40 years.

Itd be interesting if it was since violent crime as a whole has been (very slowly) decreasing.
