I still don't fucking understand it, when he went back in time and didn't come back da way he was supposed to did he

1. Stay in deir timeline, which meant dere was two captain americas? One was in da ice while da other lived with dat hot redhead forever and he just knew where to be sitting at when the normal timeline he came from happened

Or

2. His old self travelled back to da normal timeline after growing old? Possibly right before they found him in the ice, so there wouldn't be two active captain americas to freak the world out? Could possibly be why and how shield found the captain in the first place?

In da first scenario, did he continue fighting evil along with his hot gf or did he just go into hiding till he had to reappear again for endgame?

The Russos confirmed that Steve Rogers went to return the stones but stayed in the past to live a life with Peggy. That would be in a separate timeline than the one he woke up from being frozen. After he got old, he went back to the main timeline to give his shield to Falcon.
