Your company existed before you, it'll exist after you. Work is the means to an end, to provide you with income so you can actually do things that you enjoy.

While at work, I do my absolute best and it matters to me, but the second I walk out, i forget about it. And I'm a Team Leader and second in command in our office, but honestly I don't really care about work.

nah, i work for the government in a public service that saves lives and without my agency people wouldn't be allowed be able to survive in california

My company would likely take a considerable hit without me. Doesn't speak so much to how much I'm ahead, but how much they're behind. And I think it's entirely possible that their slow progression will turn me into a scapegoat of sorts taking issue with something they don't understand. An enigma.

i didn't mean about your specific role in your company's survival but rather the role your specific job has on impacting the world/life

I have what seems from my perspective to be the least essential role in a store that is not itself essential to anyone. But I do a pretty good job at it.

In this instance though many goods would be considerably more expensive and scarce I would guess. I'm not familiar with how most industries handle mass production now that so much is automated.

As a registered nurse who typically goes above and beyond, I literally help keep people alive and support their mental and emotional health.

To me and many of the people I interact with daily that has meaning.
How you feel about it is up to you.

It definitely serves a purpose. Should do more/better but at the very least it keeps dangerous people off the street for a period of time. Needs to do better at the rehabilitation end of things though. Free schooling is offered so they can get a halfway decent job when out is all thats offered but its also voluntary. Part of me thinks it should be mandatory for those without a good education. But thats only part of the problem.

Im still in training as a child welfare case manager

Havent been assigned a case load yet but Im fully aware how my decisions will shape the future destinies of the families I work with

Before this, I was a cable field technician. Maybe not work with the same gravitas but TV and internet are a lot of folks primary source of entertainment. Also had plenty of people who worked from home who needed a solid connection and thus depended on our service for their livelihood. I take pride in doing my best for people because you can never know for sure whats important or significant in the eyes of others.

I am a director of a large consulting firm specialising in helping banks with meeting their regulatory reporting and capital adequacy requirements - basically working out how much they can lend whilst balancing their risk and regulatory reporting requirements. I also help automate these processes to make them more efficient and cheaper to run.

Depending on perspective I am either helping people and businesses afford their dreams, or Im on the other end of the spectrum of helping society. I like to think Im the former.

The flip side is if banks could not get their money back when borrowers defaulted then theyd be more risk averse in lending making it harder and more expensive for people to borrow. But again flip side is if credit costs rise, there may be less people buying which wouldve pushed housing prices down.
