I usually live by the credo of "Nice things are nice" to dismiss criticism of basic or silly things that people take tender joy in.

Buuuuuuuut everyone is supposed to stop being fourteen at some point if they keep being alive, so **** like the incremental month anniversary announcements by adults always gets me looooooooolling.

Yes, they are. Some of the nicest things in the world are nice things. And I encourage people to like them. But some nice things can be private, for instance, affectionate pet names for one another or favorite spots for tiny kisses. Their exclusivity and intimacy, the shared and limited experience between a small group, are part of the niceness.
