God, 13 Reasons Why is so mind boggling terrible but I'm watching it anyway because me and my girl feel committed to finishing it since we drudged through (the absolute horse shit terrible) Season 2 after enjoying Season 1 (S1 of which I still personally disliked until the second half/final third of the season which sorta makes you relook at the course of events all differently and it becomes enjoyable and insightful). There have been other shows where I waited for it to get better and eventually dropping it because it never met the expectations I was waiting for. I suppose in this case, I enjoy the aspect of making fun of the mediocrity of the later seasons with my girl. Reality TV starring people I don't give a fuck about is also a completely different kind of material I'm simply not interested in, so it's not comparable to my situation IMO. Lastly, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to watch something you aren't actually fully enjoying or think is all that great as long as it doesn't encompass a significant amount of the media you consume. You can analyze what exactly makes it a poor show, and in this case, what has made it poor in comparisons to season(s) that may have been better. With this in mind, you can better articulate why you're drawn to the media that you prefer and why exactly you think some examples of screenplay, acting, cinematography, etc is superior to others. Would you say the same argument to a movie critic? And so what if that's not my job... does someone HAVE to be a paid movie critic to simply want to properly form their own opinions on material and properly critique a body of work they might not ultimately enjoy? Anyways, hope that provided some insight as to why someone might do something like this. Besides, it's not like I'm actively upset and trying to complain about the show being bad, I'm just stating my opinion on something.
