From what I understand, no. Not sure if there's another recovery mechanic baked in though.

Its weird how unwilling the press and people at large are to label Star Citizen a scam. Its probably the biggest scam in the history of the gaming industry.

Iirc you need to buy insurance with the ship that will allow you to re-buy it at a discount with in-game currency should get destroyed. If you don't buy the insurance, though, the ship is just gone permanently.

It is objectively not a scam

It's just a rip off

That's bullshit. If you pay real money even just 1 dollar, it should last forever

The game is still in alpha, you can literally always access any ship you buy by going to your hangar. In the real game, ships can be lost permanently, but most ships are going to have life-time insurance or monthly insurance to allow them to be replaced for free or cheap, with the exception being ships that you obtained through illegal methods unless you go through the steps to get it "legally" in your name.

1. Announce super ambitious game

2. Get your buddies to pay thousands of $$ for in-game s*** to drum up controversy and publicity

3. Return money to buddies

4. Release game and profit

Star Citizen is a giant money sink for people either too rich to care about money or too stupid to know what they're doing. They regularly release DESIGNS for ships and charge real money for the chance to buy them, so that when they're "eventually" released in game you get to have one.

The general attitude most of these people approach it with is donations towards an ambitious crowd-funded video game project with fringe benefits or certain "badges of honor" for the more expensive items. Donating money towards a video game project that potentially tens or hundreds of thousands of people could enjoy isn't unreasonable if you have that kind of spending money laying around.

The issue is that a lot of the game systems are still not online and a lot of the content-based pipelines are so ambitious that they haven't hit on a satisfying product yet.
