Sephiroth is okay, but Aerith isn't. I think there's a double standard going on here simply because people were used to Aeris.

Admittedly this is better than the usual 'Meredith' counter, but still, try sounding both names out. 'Rith produces a slightly different and noticeably more lispy sound than 'Roth.

There's people who cling to the way things were no matter what, there's people who think that literal correctness in translation supersedes everything, and there's those in the middle who just think that Aeris rolls off the tongue slightly better. Which is probably what the Woosley team thought when they changed it.

Look it's Aerith alright? It may not be better and may not be what the game said back in the day, but with voiced sequels and movies and now the remake, we ain't winning this one. I gave up years ago.

Can you name some other English words that end specifically in 'rith?' Not merely 'ith;' 'rith.' This is an honest question, as I can't think of any off the top of my head, but certainly wouldn't be so stubborn as to say they don't exist.

Honestly, the only thing that still bothers me about this debate is that too many people still aren't bright enough to grasp that different letter combinations produce different sounds.
