I was doing sales for his org and I was the top. We had a great relationship. He was super upset that I left and has periodically asked me to come back. He asked me to have coffee next week just to catch up but I have a feeling he wants to see if there is any chance Id come back.

Ive realized that this new job is just not for me. Sure its a better known company and looks great on my resume, but the company and culture there feels soulless compared to my old place. And there is crazy micro-management which I hate. I havent been micro-managed in years.

I still dont know if Id go back though, since I was essentially discriminated against when it came down to promotion time. Its funny because the dude they promoted over me was given my vertical (as justification for promoting him, sigh) and is supposed to work with this exec and the teams under him. But he still wants me back. Guess Ill see how our talk goes. The only way I would go back is a level above what I was and I dunno if this exec could pull those strings for me.

Has anyone quit their job only to go back a few months later? I cant help but feel it will just look really bad if I did.

Rule one: show no weakness.
In a negotiation, the person who shows their desire most will be weakest.

It's not a case of you wanting to come back because you dislike t he new job. You want to come back because you miss the people or the work or whatever.
You don't say you dislike the new job.

Yeah thats a good point. I havent told him I dislike this new job. So Ill wait and see what he says first. If he really wants me back Ill just share what it would take to get me there.

And I do miss the people. Its amazing how many of my old coworkers text me telling me they miss me and wanting to meet for lunch to catch up.

Had lunch today with some old coworkers who basically told me that clients dont like working with the person they promoted over me and sales are down.

Then they promoted some other guy on the team who doesnt do shit all day, but is a great ass kisser. Now others on the team have really had enough and some are also looking to leave. They work their butts off and perform better but its all about who the director likes most. I believe there is some sexism at play because the director is male, and all the people he promotes are males. While the women work 2-3x harder and juggle more but are passed over because they dont golf or drink with him. So far hes promoted/converted 4 males and no females this year, and everyone is complaining all 4 of these guys are bad at their jobs (and I witnessed it)

Really disappointing and affirms there isnt anything for me there.

This. From what youre described to us about your work life, you could probably get a good job pretty easily in your field, its just moving around thats been stressing you out.

By converted, I mean contract to full time. I knew a girl who was on contract for 3 years. She worked her ass job and they gave her the worst projects but she got it done and was great at it. They never converted her to full time so she left.

Oh hell no lol. Im never going back there. But yeah Im keeping an eye out for other things and passively looking. When someone tells you that theyve been at the company 6 months and its considered ancient, the company has a problem lol. Ive signed up for job alerts and will just see what comes my way.

Oh yeah definitely. They did want to offer me more money before I left. But it wasnt just about money for me.
