I had driven it around our dealership lot previously just to get a hang of the controls and how it handled, but today I actually used it to load a transmission into the back of a pickup truck. I have no frame of reference for how a forklift is supposed to feel, but this one felt scary. The levers to operate the forks and the boom had a lot of play before anything started moving, but once you hit that point it was more like an on/off switch. I need a lot more practice with that.

Also the brakes fucking suck. You have to press them all the way down to get any effect, and even then the effect is small. There was one point where I was in reverse on a slight incline, brake pedal mashed to the floor, and I was still creeping backwards. I dunno if it was due to the shoddy brakes or the massive counterweight on the backend, or maybe both.

In summary: death machine.

Bad breaks plus an 8k machine makes for fun. They're pretty easy though, but I also played a lot of Shenmue

I drove a forklift for work for like 4 months once, the brakes definitely shouldn't be like that.

They're fun tho

I think it's the brakes that bother me the most. Doesn't exactly make me confident to get on the gas lol

The old forklift I used here had basically no brakes and a worn out clutch.Thankfully I'm using a new Toyota.I got the hang of them back in the Army.Keep at it and learn its sweet spots...after that they become a blast.

I need to play around more with the inching pedal too, it's like a normal clutch pedal except it applies the brakes as well. Very useful
