Insomniac just got bought by Sony. Likely because Microsoft is buying a whole bunch of them too like Obsidian and Double Fine.

There aren't many left.

Its either not selling out and struggling to get financing to make big budget games

Or sellout and keep the company running, people keeping their jobs making games but also run the risk of being dissolved and ruled over by a bigger entity

I think IO and Remedy will be bought out within the year. IO by Microsoft and Remedy by Sony if I had to guess.

If next gen starts off with huge sales we'll probably see Sony and Microsoft start buying out publishers.

It's a cycle. Big studios buy out smaller ones, eventually the good people in the big studios leave to start their own indie studios. It's been happening for decades.

I doubt it since third party publishers seem happy with the deals too. Microsoft and the Japanese publishers seem to not be interested though.
