Nah that's dumb. I opt out a lot, especially on busier days when I won't get everything done necessarily if I take a break. The alternative would be going in earlier, but that would piss me off because I like sleep.

Guess you can enjoy flipping burgers or sweeping floors, because usually the higher paying jobs are pretty stressful and require dedication.

My ex-Walmart coworkers hated that I skipped out on breaks because I made them look bad, but here I am making $100k a year and they're still working deadend jobs. Soon I won't have to work at all and could sit at home if I wanted. I'm personally not against it, but penalizing people that just want to get their shit done because they hate overtime, is stupid.

Depends on the job.

Like if you're operating heavy machinery or something dangerous you definitely shouldn't skip breaks.

If you're mopping floors it's a bit less of a deal.

I'll sometimes work through breaks or lunch to helps areas that are struggling, but I'll tell my workers to go ahead and take their breaks or lunches, especially if we're going to have to work over to fill a quota.

also, taking breaks... makes stressful jobs less stressful

It should be illegal for employers to force or pressure workers to skip a break, but I see no point in punishing someone for skipping their break.

No it isn't lol. I'm allowed to show up when I want basically and there is no control over the workload. If it's slow, I'll sometimes take an hour or longer for break. If it's busy and/or I show up late, I pass on taking a break. I can and do work sitting down most of the time and it's low energy and low stress and not physically taxing at all. Basically I can just adjust my pace to fit the workload. After I get all my main stuff done, for the last few hours I just do miscellaneous downtime tasks or side projects which are all easy. I'm not supervised at all and my boss is a family member who is only in like 2 half-days a week. He doesn't care if I slack off as long as I get done what I need to get done and I know what's expected of me and make any necessary adjustments to get it done on time.

In general I mostly agree with you. Overworking employees is bullshit... but a policy like that would be inconvenient in my case since my job situation is fairly atypical and the work culture for us is unique to the business and it would negatively impact me if any oversight was done to impose that rule at my work.

I always held it as kind of a point of pride that I didn't take breaks, but as my days are getting longer and longer I'm realizing how much more productive I am at the beginning of the day. Worked like 12 hours straight today without a break, and I felt like I was underwater by the end. Probably not good for either my health or my performance.
