It's a new writer I think. He put less importance on the three goddesses and more on a demigod (?) who they appointed to oversee the land in their stead. Just as well though, we've had too many retellings on the creation story involving them. Better to tell new stories than retread old ground.

They dont even refer to the Triforce in BOTW but refer to the spirit in the Master Sword from Skyward Sword I think

I'd like to see a new game featuring Hylia herself in her true form, set way in the past before her demotion to Zelda. I feel like that'd make her more relatable/likeable.
The way I see it, she's kind of like the Avatar; she serves as a bridge between humans and the gods of old. She's still omnipotent/divine, but much more closely connected to the Hylians, both physically and spiritually. Meanwhile the goddesses are likely just seen as some mythical sky-beings who created the world and the Triforce and dipped, never to be seen or heard from again. The Big Three created the world and are still venerated (the Triforce is still a thing and all)
