Unlike some bags of chips, it isn't half full of air. chip bags aren't filled with air though. if they were then they'd be stale before you even opened them. they are filled with nitrogen gas to prevent oxidation and keep the chips fresh until opened. also, the bags being puffed up by a gas keeps the chips from being completely crushed into tiny little specks during shipping or handling. if chip bags had no allowance for the nitrogen gas then every chip would be destroyed before you open the bag. and you're charged for the chips based on the weight of the chips. it's not like if there were more chips and less gas in the bag, it would be same price because it's the same size of bag. it would cost more because there would be more weight in chips.
