Good luck with that, Japanese Master Sword Smiths only make 12 swords a year by regulation, for a Gaijin to be even to order one and be considered worthy of buying will be quite the feat.

Money isn't the pure motive for allowing you to buy one from a Japanese Master Sword Smith.

There's more to it.

Good Luck on trying though!

That looks cool and I'd just like to remind everyone that the creator of RK is a pedo and was allowed to come back to work after a few months whereas celebrities caught on drug charges in Japan are effectively wiped from public society.

Nothing personal, TC. I just feel the need to mention this whenever RK (or any other work by Watsuki) is brought up.

Doesn't bother me. You haven't stated anything that isn't factual.

In Japan, Drugs are a HELLUVA bigger Wrong then being a Pedo.

wonder how they are defining "official", since it's not the first time someone has actually forged a real life version of this sword. Man at Arms: Reforged did it last year:
"Official" according to them means made by a certified Japanese Master Sword Smith.

Not somebody outside of Japan.

With so much effort involved, we were thinking that perhaps Ogawa agreed to forge the real-world sakabato as a labor of love saluting his personal favorite anime/manga, but he surprised us by saying that prior to taking on the contract to make the Sakabato Shinuchi, hed never read nor watched Rurouni Kenshin.
I didn't expect that considering the care he took to replicate from the manga.

yeah that makes sense i guess. pretty xenophobic though. Ilya's not Japanese, but he is a very talented bladesmith who knows his stuff, and is also very obsessed with Japanese culture and history, especially that which involves Japanese weapons and weapon making. his work on this blade in particular is very intricate, detail-oriented and pretty historically accurate (except for use of modern equipment like power hammers, obviously).
Personally, I'd rather buy the Sakabato from Ilya.

You'd get it in a reasonable amount of time, and shipping from the USA and made in the USA.

You've already seen him make it once, I'm sure you can get him to make more in a semi-mass produced fashion for the right amount of $$$$

yeah i'm pretty sure they take custom orders through their Baltimore Knife and Sword company. something like this would be pretty damn expensive though, no doubt
The old adage: "You get what you pay for", and from what I can tell, they do quality work.

So I'd say the minimum of $1,000 seems to be the starting point for work of that quality IMO.

Personally, I'd want a Sakabato & Ichigo's Zangetsu.

=D

Battle ready swords only cost a couple hundred to start. 1000 dollar swords are like Jordan shoes territory. Functionally identical, but pretty enough to show off.

But the Sakabato takes a while to make properly, same with Ichigo's Zangetsu, and that's just ALOT of metal.
