Where's everyone at with it? I just passed the timeskip with Golden Deer. The plot really ramped up there in those last few chapters beforehand.

I get why they set it up so that the whole game has the same basic loop, but there are some weird "video game logic" things that come with exploring the monastery post-jump. Like, I harvested plants that I put in the greenhouse five years ago. I'm curious if they'd considered getting rid of the teaching and just going back to the classic battle-focused structure post-jump.

I'm almost to the timeskip as well. Chapter 11 Golden Deer. I haven't loved an FE game so much since Path of Radiance! Which this game steals a lot of story elements from, so I guess that makes sense. I really want to see the new designs for everyone!

I've only seen a few online. I know Claude becomes a sexy mofo and Mercedes gets a silly hat and short hair. The one thing I don't know is how the timeskip is going to come about. I thought it would be because of Byleth getting stuck in the dark dimension, but no, he's competing to be the most OP FE character of all time. He cuts his way out and gets god powers at the same time.

I'm only on chapter 5 right now in Black Eagles. Definitely going to either plow Petra or Dorothea. Maybe Bernie if she redeems herself in the timeskip, but I doubt it.

I'm having a blast though! This is literally just Persona 3 and Harry Potter mixed into Fire Emblem

Yeah they took a hard turn into waifu emblem with the 3DS games. Everyone is loving Three Houses because it cut that part out. We're back to people killing each other.

I had no idea what was going on during any given moment.

Do I keep exploring the monastery? 5 hours passed and I did 2 battles.

What are all these stats? Reclassing? Do I keep recruiting new people? What's the point of battalions?

Instructing students - had no idea what this was, why we were petting horses

The story/lore - I spent like 2 hours in the library trying to figure out what the fuck was going on and was still confused

I'm only up to chapter 6, but I've already spoiled myself on some of the story by looking at topics on the FE:TH board so I already kind of know what to expect. In retrospect, I'm really disappointed I did that but I just couldn't help myself I guess. I still love the game so far, I just think I might be enjoying it even more if I didn't already know that Edelgard is the Flame Emperor and that I'll have to pick between her and the Church. I also know Jeralt dies and Bernadetta having a long history of abuse even though I haven't gotten that far yet. Next time I'll make sure I go in completely blind so I don't ruin it for myself.

It's a strategy game set in a fantasy world, like the other games in the series. In this one, you play as a professor at a military school of sorts, and can pick from one of three Houses (corresponding to the major nations on the continent) whose students you will take into battle.

Stats impact how units perform in battle. Units with higher strength will cause more damage with physical attacks, higher magic for magic attacks, etc.

At certain level thresholds, you can change characters' classes. They qualify for a class based on their skill level with various types of weapons/movement. A cavalier, for example, requires Lance and horseriding skills. Classes impact a character's chance of getting improved stats upon leveling up.

You won't be recruiting many people just yet, but you'll want to do so before the time skip, as you can't use any characters you haven't recruited beyond that point.

Battalions are poorly explained, but effectively they attach to units and allow them to perform special abilities called gambits. They have health of their own, but don't permadie.

Just hit chapter 10 with blue lions. Having fun. Playing on normal casual. Not really playing for a challenge just wanted to mess around and I'm not a fan of a random crit making me lose w character.

I was kinda regretting my decision to play on normal, but post timeskip there's a noticeable jump in difficulty.

I only ended up with like three recruits. You have to make a real effort to boost Byleth's support with the characters you want, except for professors, who are just based on your level. Eating meals with them, having them assist on battles helps. Even then you need a modicum of skill in the areas they care about.

I'm wondering if there is a random component to recruitment. My wife managed to recruit sylvain as soon as the recruit option unlocked. I didn't get anyone until chapter 6 or 7.

From what I understand, Sylvain is basically free if you play as female Byleth.

Black Eagles literally has all the best waifus. Golden Deer only has Hilda to compete and Blue Lions literally have no one but trash lol

Also at one point your going to fight your non recruits in battle for real and kill them. You can't get them at that point.

I literally made my Byleth a Saitama-ish class My focus is mostly on Brawling and I maxed out the Brawler class, so now I can use unarmed combat in any class. So obviously I have him as a hero class with nothing but unarmed fighting dudes.

It's pretty great lol

I'm really loving all the Black Eagles. Hubert rubs me the wrong way tho and I've dedicated my run to S ranking Edelgard cuz of him.

Lysithea and Leonie are my two big favorites recruits I picked up with Felix growing on me.

Claude (I'm still sad I couldn't pull him in Heroes), Raphael, Hilda, Marianne, Lysethia, Linhardt, Mercedes, Dorothea, Caspar, Felix, Manuela, and Seteth.

I don't have the latter two yet (I'm assuming that you can recruit them?), but I enjoy them as characters.

If you're rich enough to afford a second home though, then it's probably a good investment I guess?

No clue, I am going back through and seeing if the bonds with people are the reason. I messed up on a lot of the dialogue choices.

Side question, why was there no way to change your appearance in this one? Was it because of the cutscenes?
