It wouldn't stop them all, just most. And thats good enough.

Is that actually good enough for average Trump voters?

No one is under the impression it will stop every illegal immigrant, but they do think it would reduce the number by thousands. Even if the majority over stay visas, that leaves a ton of untrackable people coming over land. I those at least can be reduced, then people consider it a worthy investment.

The wall would be presumably mitigating one aspect of illegal immigration That, while not constituting the majority, still accounts for a huge number of illegal immigrants.

Pretty much this.

Visa over stays are a bit more than half (last number i saw was 62%) that that still leaves 4-5 million that aren't overstays. Even then the number of illegals in the US are only what we "know" of. It could be substantially more.

A strong barrier would apply an additional deterrent, create choke points, and unauthorized entry points easy to find. It's not a 100% fix but really nothing is. With the mass amounts of people crossing illegally from the south it's the best idea i've seen publicly touted.

Add in stricter penalties from illegal crossing, fix asylum loop holes, and penalize those exploiting illegal labor and you have a solid "fix" to a very long standing problem the US has had.

There has also been a big push to go after the immigrants that are here illegal from overstays. I have no sympathy for those being deported for overstays. They were very aware when they applied for a visa of the rules. If they didn't apply for an extension it's their own damn fault.

Remember how Trump's original arguing point was that terrorists were coming through the southern border?

Did everyone just realize how stupid that was and keep it quiet out of embarrassment, or?

If it's that easy why are people risking their lives trekking through the desert to get here?

Because the ones doing that aren't the ones with the resources to do so...?

Like, is this a serious question?

Is this a serious answer? We're talking about a wall.
