It was the arcade game released around the time of F-Zero GX. I think there was some way to transfer data from it to your Gamecube if you played it? I never encountered it, but I knew a lot about it because I had a strategy guide that included it.

This^ Anytime I 100% GX I play through and unlock everything, and then I'll use a game shark to unlock the AX parts since there really isn't any other way to get them with the arcade cabinets no longer being around (or at least, none are anywhere near me) --- "With cheese in either hand, anything is possible" ... I've haven't played it on an actual arcade machine, but I have played it by using an Action Replay code that transforms GX into AX. Time extensions and everything.

Yeah they presumably began development of GX by porting AX to the Gamecube then building on top of the framework. It's all on the disc.

I played it once, it had a thing where your seat would tilt when taking corners and when the track is on its side. I forgot what it would do when the track is upside down.
