Yep. I ran into one on the way home. Battled the rocket guy. Pokemons were all easy. You get premiere balls for a shadow encounter. I got a bulbasaur. Purified it for exchange? Looks like a swap out move. Was 22/90 instead of 25/100 to evolve. I doubt I will ever use it but it's a neat concept. Stood out in the rain the whole time lol

Based off the things I've read

You go to a pokestop with an aura, battle team rocket grunts, based on the number is things you have left after battling you get a certain number of balls, you get to try and catch shadow Pokemon, then you can purify them (costs seem to be between like 2000 and 5000 stardust and 2-5 candy) and they have higher stats than normal. Also they can have the special move Return (normal) through this process. None of the guides I saw said if it's a fast or charge move though.

Its a charge move. Shadow pokemon get Frustration as their charge move which does shit for damage. Purified get Return which is more powerful.

Despite this I want a team of shadow pokemon.

Shadow Pokmon sound functionally worse than normal ones. Sure you get a 2IV boost when purifying but if the capture pool is trash it doesnt really matter. Theres a stardust sink to purify which sucks. I wish we earned dust faster. Also Return/Frustration are awful moves, simply because theyre normal type. Nobody cares about normal type moves in this game because youd rather have STAB/type coverage moves.

Shadow Pokemon aren't all bad. The meta relevant ones can become very powerful endgame material. Dragonite for example. Catch the shadow Dratini and then do a lucky trade to guarantee a 12/12/12 iv floor minimum. Then purify it and the IVs will rise to at least 13/13/13 (will likely be a high 90s or hundo) and then evolve, and you have yourself a very easy to power up and strong Dragonite. Lucky already reduces powerup dust cost by 50%, purified will slightly enhance that AND reduce candy cost.

On the matter of shadow mons, I got my first one, a Squirtle.

Golbat x2 and a Crobat.

Took me three tries but I got her at the last fucking second.

Then I only got three balls and couldn't snag the Golbat.
