Hopefully when Capcom take their time to re-evaluate the franchise and where it should go so we don't get another lame bog standard title like Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice, where Phoenix isn't flanderized to hell and back and where the story isn't a complete trash.

So hopefully never.

SoJ was great. I have some issues with DD, but they were pretty much all fixed with SoJ.

Anyway, a TGS announcement seems probable, if something is in development.

SoJ was great.

In literally zero ways.

I thought I remember reading somewhere they were working on the next one but maybe I imagined it.

SoJ was one of my favorites and certainly in the top half of the series.

At the very least they could work on porting the rest of the series to PC

In the original trilogy Phoenix wasnt competent enough to do any trial by himself and without getting bailed out by Mia except for 1-5 and 2-3 (ironically) anyway.

Okay.

I mean, you're right and the best thing the franchise ever did was get away from Mia and the whole spirit channeling garbage.

But... okay?

I dont think hes really flanderized when hes at his most competent in the recent games barring 6-5s first case which I do believe executed him badly (and 6-6 which is just a bad bland case all around.) Unless you dont like his new competence trait. I think him becoming more of a mentor figure is a natural evolution after everything he went through. 6-1 and 6-3 has him struggling a bit again but I think thats completely understandable since hes out of his depth in Khurain and has the odds stacked even more against him than Japanifornia.

They've completely given up on giving him any character development or movement. As a form of fan service that does a dis-service to the fans he's forever stuck in his loveable bumbling PW trilogy persona, despite Apollo Justice giving him a fuckton of character development. It is impossible for the Post-AJ Phoenix to ever grow as a character. Despite his age and experience he will forever be coldsweating trials monologing about how he just has to bluff and think about it later.

They even had to kidnap Maya as an excuse to the idea that Phoenix, a lawyer, would ever do something as horrible as represent a client against another defense lawyer in Turnabout Revolution.

Yeah, he does appear to have hit the end of his character arcs road. His purpose now is pretty much being used as a vehicle to explore other characters. But I wouldnt call that flanderization since hes still noticeably a lot more competent and wiser than he was in the original trilogy. Plus, him needing to resort back to his bluffing ways in 5-5 and his SoJ cases (and also vs Professor Layton) work because the situation hes in is much more dire than usual, 5-5 being under a hostage situation, and SoJ+vs Layton being in a different court system that hes not used to and has the odds stacked even more against him. The AAI games do that a little too with Edgeworth by upping the stakes so that even he has to play the underdog. They definitely will have a harder time justifying it for Phoenix in a new game though.

Yeah, like I said, the civil case was executed pretty horribly. I think having Phoenix planning it all the whole time would have worked out better but the whole thing was an awkward premise.

An Ace Attorney game that doesn't have desperate bluffing would probably be pretty boring.

I didn't mind them moving away from Phoenix as the main protagonist though but I guess that's the big hurdle for them.
