First game I've played that's done this, and it blows. You lose everything on an attempt, and then you're just screwed cause you have nothing left.

Game is always moving forward so anything you use is gone. I personally love it. It makes you really have to be committed to using items. I use to never use consumables so I can just pretend Im playing like I use to play games if I run out.

I was about to say that it's just like other Souls games, but it looks like Sekiro's your first? Since you lose spirit emblems I just stopped using or caring about ninja tools for the most part. I just learned to get by with parries, mikiri counters, etc.

Sounds like a roguelike, or one of those games like Gradius where you lose all your power up if you die.

But yeah, it's done to make the game more difficult. It's annoying, but it's to encourage the player to learn from their mistakes and improve. Of course this inevitably invovles dying a lot...

Sekiro's tough, and I never would've passed it if Gourds weren't like Estus. If those were consumables like grass or blood vials then I would've given up.

If you use stuff like oil, pellets, or etc, they are gone forever. I ran out of oil on the stupid seven spears guy, and now I'm boned. I'm trying to farm some, but I can't find any >.<

losing consumables on failure is pretty bad game design

it's already hard enough to talk yourself into using consumables when you might want them later, now you also have to deal with the potential that you might want them earlier too

What? You dont lose stuff unless you use it. I wouldve run out of the small heals in no time flat on the miniboss after the chained ogre if that were the case.

You only lose things you use? That's pretty standard design unless the game sends you back to the title screen... Which is an rpg feature. Sekiro isn't an rpg.
